AIAANDES Mission

American International Academy of the ANDES is committed to nurturing the gifts and talents of each child to become compassionate, globally minded, creative thinkers and problem solvers using individualized curricula that results in a lifelong love of learning, positive character traits, and both personal and academic growth for each student through Arts, Nature, Discovery, Exploration, and Sciences.

The Birth of AIAANDES

In 2015, a couple of expat kids were being tutored by an expat teacher. They wanted to be recognized as students at a school like other kids, but not just any school and not just any kids. Their school would be unique, it would recognize the international flavor of the community in which they live. It would promote creativity and problem solving. The natural surroundings would become their primary classroom. They would have a say in what they would learn. Their school would be small, personal, and like a family where nobody was excluded because of physical or learning differences. If they moved away, they could still be a part of the school community through online classes and keep their same friends and teachers. American International Academy of the ANDES was born!

American International Academy of the Andes (AIAANDES) is a private international online K–12 academy registered in Colorado and serving families around the world. We offer two pathways to support diverse learning needs:

• Full Instructional Pathway — Online curriculum with live teacher support, weekly advising, and individualized academic guidance. Students may enroll full-time or part-time, taking either a complete course load or selected AIAANDES courses.

• School-of-Record Pathway — For families who use their own curriculum but want official academic oversight, progress monitoring, transcripts, and U.S.-based diploma eligibility.

(This pathway does not include individual AIAANDES course enrollment.)

Student Connection & Academic Accountability

To support student success, well-being, and academic integrity, all AIAANDES students participate in a brief weekly real-time check-in with an AIAANDES Homeroom teacher or advisor.

This ensures:

The student remains connected and supported
Progress is being made
Records reflect meaningful learning

This weekly presence requirement applies to both pathways, though the form it takes may vary by grade level and program.

In both pathways, AIAANDES maintains academic records, provides evaluations and progress monitoring, and supports long-term academic continuity. Families remain responsible for meeting the educational requirements of their place of residence, while AIAANDES provides the structure, oversight, and community support needed for student success.

Full Instructional Program

Students in North America and around the world complete their learning program through our online curriculum and live instructional support. Teachers guide progress, provide feedback, and offer academic advising. Students meet with their advising teacher and classmates online each week for discussion and collaboration. In addition to core coursework, students may participate in tutorials, clubs, and enrichment activities to explore interests, build skills, and connect with peers.

🌿 Community Connections

Some families also participate in local enrichment activities through MY ANDES, which is part of the independently organized ANDES Learning Network. These in-person activities are separate from the online academy and are coordinated directly with local educators.

AIAANDES Online Enrichment

🌿Looking for meaningful, creative learning experiences online? 🌿

Our Online Enrichment program offers interest-based classes where students can explore new topics, build skills, and connect with peers from around the world.

Classes vary by term and have included: radio drama, yearbook, physical education, visual art, logic challenges, book clubs, storytelling, escape room adventures, and more.

Enrollment in our full academic program is *not required* — students may join enrichment classes on their own at the start of any new session .
